The control of active loudspeakers is done by means of small-signal voltages over appropriately suitable cable connections. For the operation of active speakers, a final amplifier is not required any more as these are already integrated in the same in multiple form. The MA6000 preamplifier has been developed as a control and distributing centre for the control of active loudspeakers. It is capable to drive the small-signal cables leading to the active loudspeakers in an optimised way, even if these should have greater lengths. The MA6000 provides options for the desired audio source and allows the setting of volume, balance and channel level.

As multi-channel technology increasingly finds its way to the audio rooms of the demanding music-lover it was an obvious thing to us to develop the MA6000 as a combined multi-channel and stereo preamplifier. The MA6000 is equipped with two independent, unsymmetrical 6-channel inlets that are marked according to the well-known 5.1-scheme and intended for the analogue outlets of high-end SACD and DVD players. For stereo signal sources there are six further inlets, one of them with symmetrical XLR inlets, the others with unsymmetrical cinch inlets. As outlets there are six symmetrical XLR connections and six unsymmetrical cinch connections. The output signal of the individual channels is concurrently on the symmetrical and the asymmetrical output jack. Signal processing is mad inside the device on an exclusively analogue basis.

The MA6000 can be operated in both 6-channel mode and in stereo mode. In the 6-channel mode all channels are active, whereas in the stereo mode only the outlets for the two front channels carry signals, the remaining four are switched off. The 6-channel mode has a separate level setting for each channel that serves to adjust a 5.1- or 6-channel speaker arrangement. The setting values are stored in the device and will be available each time one of the two 6-channel inlets is switched on. In case of the stereo inlets, there is a balance setting for level changes between the two channels the settings of which are also stored. The setting of the volume and level is made over digitally controlled, but analogously working circuits operating with high precision and very low distortions as well as extremely low noise.

The respectively prevailing operating mode can be read from a display on the front side of the device. The device is exclusively operated over an infrared remote control unit. The front plate does not have any control elements.

For owners of a loudspeaker arrangement according to Werner Dabringhaus' 2+2+2® method, an optional special circuit is available. This circuit allows for the correct reproduction of 5.1 multi-channel recordings without an additional centre speaker being necessary.
